Rendering The Corona Virus' Spike Protein with Houdini by Jeroen Claus

Intro

Jeroen Claus, director of Phospho Biomedical Animation, creates a guest tutorial for the Entagma group on how to visualize and animate the SARS-Cov-2’s spike protein using tools available in Houdini.

Dr Jeroen Claus, a biologist and expert in visualizing molecular structures, is passionate about creating stunning animations to showcase excellent science.

Visualizing COVID with Houdini

Programs like Houdini can be incredibly powerful tools when it comes to creating accurate representations of molecular structures. In this tutorial Jeroen shows you how you can pull data from journal papers and the Protein Data Bank to create highly accurate representations of protein structures. What differentiates Jeroen’s work from many similar applications is that he is not only able to achieve scientific accuracy, but he is also able to inject beautiful design and colors into his work—making the final visualizations incredibly pleasing to look at and learn more.

Mentioned in the video:

From Entagma:
”You asked us how to visualize the corona virus, but we're by no means biologists... So we went out (Only virtually of course - we're still curfewed as of today.) and found someone who is more qualified than us to cover that task.

May we introduce to you: Dr. Jeroen Claus of https://www.phospho.co.uk/, a biologist and expert in visualizing molecular structures.

In this video, Jeroen covers what's needed to import and animate SARS-Cov-2's spike protein aka "the virus nubbins".
